Trotter Racing January 2017 Update

Jan 29, 2017

A Happy New Year to all our Owners Friends and readers of our website. Trotter Racing is looking forward to the New Year with a nice bunch of 2 year olds earmarked to make their racetrack debuts this year. A boutique racing operation Trotter Racing aims to provide individual attention to each horse and to make the owners experience accessible both financially and feeling welcomed at the stables. We currently have 8 Racehorses in the training system with room for a couple more and 2 homebred foals. Horses selected at yearling sales must pass a stringent criteria and have exceptional confirmation and then be value for money so that can be passed onto our band of loyal clients. Trotter Racing gets back to the grassroots of what racing is all about that is the horse. Often referred to as an industry with wall to wall racing its nice to get involved and experience each horses journey from breaking in to the winners circle that a small professional racing stable can provide. Here is a run down on the stable horses.

1. Charlie filly foal by Moshe-Darsawye

Charlie is a filly foal by Black Caviar's brother Moshe and a well put together strong type. For those familiar with the stable she is a Cyclone being a half to multiple city winner Cyclone Andy, Cyclone Jess and Cyclone Sarah. Charlie is also a half sister to Brave Maddie who performed very well at her 2 starts to date. This filly looks like a real early runner and from a mare that throws winners.

2. Daryl filly foal by Turffontein-Future Plans

The long awaited Turffontein filly was born in late November after a false start from the mare the previous breeding season when showing all the signs of being in foal but coming up empty. The name Daryl hatched at the Cox Plate that year listening to Daryl Braithwaite banging out "Horses" had to wait a year until her safe arrival irrespective of her sex. She is a cheeky little filly with plenty of personality and it will be great to see her develop literally from conception with her late mating to Turffontein  in 2015 at Blue Gum Farm through to the racetrack. She is a half sister to the first Cranbourne trained horse to win under lights at Cranbourne in Kaitoa.

3. Redmond 2 year old gelding Host - Darsawye

Another Cyclone unamed 2 year old by Host this boy has really come on over the last month. A virtual clone of his older brother Cyclone Andy, Redmond has started to get along on the track and will probably have a couple of gallops over the next fortnight before having a break. Expecting him to furnish into a lovely horse next time in.

4. Xavier  2 year old colt by Statue of Liberty-En Vogue

This boy is an outstanding type and we were happy to take him home to train when passed in for $55K on a reserve of $60K when prepared under our Boutique Bloodstock banner for the Inglis Ready to Race Sale. He has developed much quicker than first thought and proven to be a fast learner. He is just about to be named and trial to gain his barrier certificate. This colt has had an educational jumpout at Cranbourne and shows plenty of tenacity and willingness to get in amongst the action. We look forward to him getting to the track targetting the VOBIS gold bonus races He is owned by a mixture of existing and new owners in the stable.

5. Pippa 2 year old filly by Canford Cliffs- Amicable Agreement

Pippa is a very precious filly to our stable after we lost her half brother Mahlabatini to an infection in May last year after only 3 starts which yielded a win and second placing. Armed with the knowledge of his ability which was unknown to buyers at the time we secured her at the Inglis Premier Sale. She is a quality, athletic filly with plenty of scope and presence. Pippa has inherited the toughness of her brother and she showed a very good turn of foot in her dash ups last time in. Pippa just missed out on trialling before Christmas succumbing to shin soreness and has now returned from a nice break aiming to get to the races this time eyeing off the VOBIS gold races.

6. Sophie 2 year old filly by Strategic-Future Plans.

Never seen such a transformation in a horse before. A homebred by noted winner getting sire Strategic, Sophie was a plain ugly leggy looking foal. She started to grow into herself as a yearling, however the rate of improvement during the Spring was significant to the point of checking her brands. She is such a lovely filly now and got to the trial stage last time in. Now with the benefit of a good break we are excited to see what she can do this time in.

7. Christian 2 year old colt by Hard Spun -Miss Timbertop

This colt is part of our Boutique Bloodstock Ready to Run Team. Passed in at the Inglis Ready To Race sale on a $80K reserve. This colt will trial up in February and be available then. He is a great example of the type of horse that we look to buy in terms of type and conformation. Ideally we would love to find clients that would be in a position to purchase him and leave in the stable.

8. Brave Maddie 3 year old filly by Host-Darsawye.

Brave Maddie is another Cyclone but the moniker was put on hold to name her after part owners the Green family's grand daughter who passed away. Given plenty of time to mature Brave Maddie certainly has given good indication that she is a promising staying filly. After a very a brave debut at Sandown prior to Christmas in a strong maiden she went to an equally as strong maiden at Cranbourne coming from well back to just miss second with the winner Tres going on to run second at Moonee Valley at her next start. Sent straight for a break Brave Maddie will be back in work shortly and looks to have a good future.

8. Grangemouth 4year old gelding by Shocking-Bewildered

As you can see we have mainly young horses so needed to fill a void over summer with a horse ready to get to the races and Grangemouth fitted the bill. The son of Melbourne Cup winner Shocking showed promise in his first preparation and was identified as a suitable horse to purchase for the stable at the August Inglis Sale. Over summer Grangemouth has managed to run 2 seconds a 4th and 5th. He was unlucky not to break his maiden last week going down narrowly by a short half head. We look forward to racing him with a great group of owners around the Victorian Country tracks where we believe he will continue to improve over the next few preparations.

9. Plot The Course 5 year old gelding by Henrythenavigator-But I'm Serious

Stable star Plot The Course delivered Michael his first city winner at Caulfield last spring and rounded off his consistent campaign with a 4th in the Group 3 Eclipse Stakes beaten less than a length. A great result for our small stable to have him compete during Cup week at Flemington 2 years in a row. He was coming up really well but strained a ligament mid January forcing him to have a quiet 10 days to recover. Hopefully he is back on track as we truly believe he has improved this time in and his best is yet to come.

Hopefully that gives you an insight into our team of horses and we cannot wait to see how they perform this year. We will be heading to the Inglis Premier, Easter and VOBIS Gold sales this year looking to add to the team and acquire Ready to Run horses for Boutique Bloodstock. We welcome all enquires to chat to us, visit the stables, trackwork and the sales.
