Shenanigans and Toyed off to Corowa
Jul 06, 2014
The spate of wet tracks in Victoria has forced Trotter Racing to look to the Riverina to find suitable races for both Toyed and Shenanigans. With every dry tracker looking to run on the Synthetic and grass tracks well and truly staying in the heavy range finding suitable races for Toyed and Shenanigans has poven problematic. The TAB meeting at Corowa on Monday will see them both heading up the highway and over the border in search of a reasonable track surface which is currently a dead 5. Thankfully the 1300m Benchmark 55 races were split avoiding a clash of stablemates. The two runners look well placed and extremely well weighted. Toyed has had a very consistent preparation putting the writing on the wall with a fast finishing 2nd at Tatura prior to her impressive maiden victory at Echuca. Wet tracks and bad luck have got in the way at her last 2 starts. She handles tracks up to a slow 7 so hopefully track conditions on Monday will suit. The 1300 trip should be ideal and Toyed will be partnered by Jamie Bayliss her regular track work rider. There appears good speed on paper which from the draw should allow her to settle in behind the pace and hopefully clear running in the straight.
Shenanigans will be doing his best to make it a race to race double. He has drawn 2 and the 1300m gives him that extra time to roll forward and race on pace where he runs his best races. He is a difficult horse to ride because you need to keep pushing him along and he is very one paced. When he gets conditions to suit he always gives an honest effort and inevitably finishes in the first 4. He looks to have drawn the weaker of the two races and if he can produce a run like his last start he will prove hard to run down.
