Toyed Toy's with them!
May 04, 2014
Finally Toyed broke through for a well deserved victory over 1200m at Echuca on Sunday. She put the writing on the wall last start with a fast finishing second and was cherry ripe third up for the 1200m. Keen to find a reasonable surface it was a touch and go whether or not Toyed would head to Echuca but barrier 1, a 9 horse field and no rain in sight and the indications were that this was probably going to be the best option given the forecast for the week. Toyed has been a delicate filly to train and has cost herself wins in the past due to her habit of overracing and field shyness. These traits can be fixed with time, maturity and patience. Thankfully the owners gave the stable and Toyed the opportunity to get into the winners circle. From barrier 1 Craig Robertson enjoyed the box seat and Toyed relaxed and travelled sweetly in the run. She just needed to get some luck on straightening which she did and under strong riding from Craig Robertson she was able to beat off the leader and win going away by a length and half. The maiden race is the hardest one to win and for Toyed it certainly has been. She very nearly won on debut and has run in the first 4 on 10 occasions during her 18 start career to date. With the owners giving the green light for another preparation Michael went about a different approach with Toyed to add some more strength and condition to her delicate frame. This included a lunging technique aimed at developing the muscles in the hindquarters in the hope this would help her be stronger in the finish of her races. Today it certainly did. A great result for all involved and a second winner in a week for the stable after Marvellous Choice's win on monday at Kilmore.
