Cyclone Andy wins the St Patricks Cup

Mar 15, 2014

Super consistent Cyclone Andy blizted his rivals by 5.5 lengths to take out the St Patricks cup today at Geelong. The win was his 5th from 20 starts and takes his earnings to over 150k for the homebred son of Yasey. Cyclone Andy was third up today and got to the 1400m trip hard fit. It has been the stable's intention to get him to this distance all along but has been unable due to niggling injuries and immaturity. Well placed today in an open handicap with a 5.5 kg drop in weight from his last start 4th behind some smart horses at Sandown Cyclone Andy was perfectly rated in front by Darren Gauci. For racing purists it was a delight to see one of the best jockeys of the last 30 years with his kind hands and perfect judgement of pace dominate the race and win running away. The trip from Bendigo to Geelong was a tip in itself. The win was a great result for the stable which has been ultra consistent with its small team over the summer months with 2 wins and 9 frustrating placings.
